Guest vocals

Keri Hilton is one of these singers who gladly share their skills. No wonder you can hear her vocals in various albums, especially by hip-hop and R&B artists. Her adventure with guest vocals started in 2004, when she first lent her voice in Xzibit’s track “Hey Now (Mean Muggin)”. Later she collaborated with Timbaland (“The Way I Are” and “Scream”) and Rich Boy (guest vocals in “Lost Girls” and “Good Things”). She wrote a few songs for a Britney Spears album, and appeared in music videos for Usher’s “Love in This Club” and Ne-Yo’s “Miss Independent”. What’s interesting, Keri did not stop collaboration with other artists on releasing her solo album. Quite the contrary. Her vocals can be heard in “Medicine” by Plies, “Everything, Everyday, Everywhere” by Fabulous and “Hero” by Nasy, Sean Paul’s “Hold My Hand” and Chris Brown’s “Superhuman”.

No Boys Allowed

The second album release by Keri Hilson can only be described with one world: mocking. This is apparent in its very title. Keri herself has admitted she does not try to exclude men and that the title is sort of tongue-in-cheek, but still it has a message. She favors mature men, who have grown out of being the eternal boy and who are no longer tied to the aprons of their mums. This is the kind of men she sings about, as well as the kind of men she encourages other women to live with. On the other hand, she tries to make men aware of has women really perceive them and what are their feelings. Keri’s confessions are all the more valuable given the fact that she has gone through a number of more or less successful relationships, which certainly makes her credible on the issue. But let’s go back to the album. It features twelve tracks, including one remix (“Pretty Girl Rock”). The majority of them were produced by Polow da Don and Timbaland. There are also guest vocals by Kanye West, Chris Brown, Rick Ross and J-Cole, which gives the album a flavor of R&B, soul, electro and dancehall.

In a Perfect World

Each of us would like to live in a perfect world. Each of us has a different idea of what it should look like. Keri Hilson’s debut album “In a Perfect World…” is, then, not only a source of delight, but also an invitation to reflect on our lives. Released in 2009, the album features great lyrics and combined R&B with hip-hop. It quickly made it to the Top 5 of Billboard’s 200 Chart and to the first place in the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album reached Gold status. It was promoted with five singles, the most popular ones being “Energy” and “Knock You Down”, followed by “I like”. The latter was presented mainly in Europe and promoted the German romantic comedy “Zweiohrküken”. And what does Keri Hilson has to say about her own release? In interviews she has openly admitted she did not care to create an album that would present her in a perfect way, as no one is perfect and that’s exactly the message she tried to convey. That is also why she wanted to include tracks which would relate to real situations.
